Project Objective
The KISTI National Data Exchange Node (NDeX) project aims to build infrastructure and operational systems for ultra-high-performance national large-scale data exchange nodes, including the following key objectives:
- Designing and building the National Data Exchange Node infrastructure
- Establishing and reliably operating the NDeX operational framework
- Developing and applying core technologies for the National Data Exchange Node
Implementation Structure
The implementation structure of the NDeX project is illustrated below. It encompasses the construction of data exchange infrastructure, core technology research, and a 24/7 operational and fault-response system via the Operations Center. The NDeX facilitates data-driven research across industry, academia, and research institutions by enabling interconnectivity with various data exchange networks.
Phase-by- Phase Goals and Plans
Phase 1 (2023-2024):
- Secure core technologies for ultra-high-performance infrastructure for national large-scale data exchange nodes.
- Build pilot exchange nodes at two metropolitan areas in Korea at the multi-terabit scale.
- Establish direct interconnections and cooperation systems with data providers and consumers, including telecom operators and data centers.
- Set up and operate the National Data Exchange Node Operations Center.
Phase 2 (2025-2026):
- Apply the core technologies to production-level services for national large-scale data exchange.
- Fully deploy exchange nodes at three metropolitan areas at the hundreds of terabits scale.
- Expand direct interconnections with telecom operators, data centers, and other data provider/consumer networks.
- Stabilize and advance the Operations Center for robust national-scale service.
Branding Identity (BI)
The “X” in NDeX symbolically represents the connection and interoperability between data. The design embodies the idea of data being combined, divided, and in continuous motion—much like living cells that divide and evolve. This visual metaphor expresses the role of NDeX as a national data exchange node, where data flows between multiple networks are seamlessly interconnected.
By enabling advanced data exchange infrastructure, the NDeX project will play a critical role in supporting national research, technological advancements, and collaborations across diverse sectors.
